Action Against Hunger
Action Against Hunger is at the forefront of the fight against hunger and malnutrition in over 40 countries. In the most affected countries, its teams do their utmost day after day to save the lives of severely malnourished children and ensure that people are given access to the most basic of human rights - the right to food. Action against Hunger UK is part of the Action Against Hunger International Network.
Africa Now
Africa Now supports small-scale business in Africa, and promotes ethical international trade which benefits everyone. Africa Now develops ways to make markets work for disadvantaged producers by providing market knowledge, training, credit for improved products and processes, seeking out reliable markets, and promoting ethical trade.
Alcohol Focus Scotland
Problem drinking ruins lives. Around 130,000 children in Scotland are living with a parent's problem drinking and alcohol is a major cause of family breakdowns. Alcohol Focus Scotland trains volunteer alcohol counsellors to work with people seeking help and provides a wide range of self-help materials to help people to avoid problems or address them appropriately.
Alzheimer Scotland
Alzheimer Scotland is the leading specialist dementia charity in Scotland and works passionately to improve the lives of everyone affected by dementia in the following ways. There are 63,000 people with dementia in Scotland and as the population ages this number is expected to rise significantly. We depend on fundraised income for our Information and Helpline Services, training for carers, campaigning activities and some specialist services.
Assisi Animal Charities
Assisi is a consortium of five animal welfare charities, working to ease the suffering of thousands of animals both in the UK and abroad. Money raised is split between the five charities: The Animal Health Trust, The Blue Cross, The International League for the Protection of Horses, The Mayhew Animal Home and SPANA, Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad.
Bristol Cancer Help Centre
Bristol Cancer Help Centre is the leading UK charity specialising in the Bristol Approach to cancer care, for people with cancer and those close to them. The Bristol Approach works hand-in-hand with medical treatment, offering a unique combination of physical, emotional and spiritual support, using complementary therapies, self-help techniques, nutritional advice and counselling.
Centrepoint
Every night over 600 young people sleep safely in Centrepoint's projects knowing that tomorrow they will be given all the support they need to fulfil their potential. Centrepoint provides the counselling training, education and employment advice that helps these homeless young people get off the streets for good.
The Children's Society
The Children's Society works to support and directly help over 50,000 disadvantaged children each year.
As a voluntary society we operate 90 projects across the country with 4000,000 supporters and 81 shops. The Children's Society will also mark its 125th anniversary in 2006.
Childhope
ChildHope is a children charity based in the UK. We have worked with local partners in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe for over 15 years. ChildHope is committed to working with children who are neglected by society and are the most vulnerable to violence, exploitation and disease. Our work focuses on reducing violence against children and on reducing the incidence and impact of HIV and AIDS on orphans and vulnerable children. ChildHope currently supports 11 projects across the world.
Childlife
Childlife raises funds for four very special children's charities, each aiming to improve the lives of children living with life-threatening conditions, disability or difficult social circumstances. Money raised is split between the four charities: The National Deaf Children's Society, Acorns Children's Hospice, The National Children's Bureau and Ataxia UK.
Jeans for Genes
Jeans for Genes raises funds for research into serious genetic disorders affecting thousands of children, as well as valuable support services and advice for families.
In the UK, one baby in every 33 is born with a genetic disorder or birth defect - that's one born every 30 minutes whose life could be affected. In 2006, Jeans for Genes will be benefiting 10 national charities, including Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, SPARKS and Wellchild.
Make-A-Wish Foundation
Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK has a very simple objective - granting wishes of children and young people aged 3 to 17 living with life-threatening illnesses. Our wishes are truly magical, a wish come true brings so much to a child's life and provides memories that last a lifetime.
Meningitis Trust
The Meningitis Trust is the UK's leading meningitis charity, raising awareness of meningitis and septicaemia through an education and training programme and offering practical support to people coping with the devastating after-effects. Together we are working towards a world that is free from meningitis and where those affected by the disease receive quality care and support for life.
Multiple Sclerosis Society
Multiple Sclerosis is the most common cause of disability amongst young people. It is completely unpredictable and can strike anyone at any time. The MS Society is dedicated to providing the highest quality support, emotional, financial and practical to all who are affected by this disease.
Rainbow Trust Children's Charity
Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides support for families when a child has a life threatening or terminal illness - from diagnosis, through treatment, to bereavement and beyond, in their own homes and at our two respite houses in Surrey and Northumberland. One day every family who has a child diagnosed with a life threatening or terminal illness, throughout the country, will have access to and the support of a Rainbow carer.
RSPCA
The RSPCA is the oldest and largest animal welfare charity in the UK. It was formed in 1824 and for over 180 years the RSPCA has worked towards its aims to prevent cruelty and promote kindness to animals. There are now 323 uniformed RSPCA inspectors and 146 animal collection officers in England and Wales working tirelessly for animals in distress.
Sense
Sense is a national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are both deaf and blind. We provide specialist information, advice, and services to deafblind people, their families, carers and the professionals who work alongside them. Many of the people we support have disabilities beyond sensory impairments.
Sight Savers International
Sight Savers' vision is of a world in which no one is needlessly blind and where everyone who is irreversibly blind or severely visually impaired enjoys the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities as people who are sighted.
Working in developing countries for 50 years, we have helped restore sight to more than five million people and treat over 70 million for potentially blinding conditions. We have also supported people who are blind, providing education, counselling and training.
The Somebody Cares Consortium
Somebody Cares is a consortium of four charities working together to raise funds for, and awareness of, difficult social issues. Money raised is split between the four charities: Addaction, Homeless Link, The National AIDS Trust and Prisoners Abroad.
World Cancer Research Fund
World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) is the only UK charity dedicated solely to the prevention of cancer. One in three of the nation's population will develop a form of cancer at some point in their lives. 30-40% of cancers can be prevented through following a healthy diet and lifestyle. WCRF UK funds scientific cancer research and public education programmes on cancer prevention.
